Why not have a look at the East Harlsey Village Hall Facebook page
The Village Hall is in the centre of the village and is used by the local community, and can also be hired by the general public or by business organisations. Potential customers are encouraged to come and talk to us about their needs or get in touch via e-mail. It is ideal for business meetings, social and charity functions, private parties, children’s entertainment, drama performances and private hirings such as wedding receptions, birthdays, retirements and a host of other activities. With three halls, a Bar and a large outside area, this hall offers many opportunities. All are equipped with super fast wi-fi. This is the main centre for village activities. The Hall is run by a Management Committee who organise regular activities for social and fundraising purposes.
The Village Hall Committee meets once a month to manage the hall's activities and maintenance.
The current members are as follows but new volunteers are always welcome either to join the committee or just to help at various events.
Syd Bailey (Chairman), Judith Allan (Secretary), Paul Buckingham (Treasurer), John Gilliland, Richard Martin, Mike Smith, Paul Sanderson, Leah Wilson, Gill Selby, Cat Lane, Barbara Moore and Andrew Crowley.
The Village Hall Caretaker is Hazel Dixon who lives in the Village Hall Cottage. She can be contacted on 01609 882211. For bookings email the Village Hall Secretary, Judith Allan, or phone on 01609 882581 or see the Bookings Information page to download a copy of the Booking Form.
The Village Hall has been fitted with very stylish new upvc double-glazed windows throughout and a lovely new draught-free rear door. These will have a long life and be far more maintenance-free, as well as improving the heat retention and, therefore, comfort for customers. We hope you like them. The funds came from hirings and bar proceeds from wedding functions over the years. We feel the results are very beneficial to the hall and the village. The rear door is also new with a wood crafted replacement, all thanks to a generous grant from the Jack Brunton Charitable Trust. In 2021 new electric powered heating in the Main Hall replaced the old gas-powered radiators to the delight of our customers.
In November 2017, two new pieces of play equipment were installed in the Playarea behind the hall. We had a Grand Opening on Friday 6th April 2018 when Rishi Sunak MP performed the honours and about 60 people attended the social evening. We thank those who took part in a survey to find out your views about the Play Area. Your responses were very positive and encouraged and helped us in applying for grants to fund this work. We also thank those who helped us complete the work, Hambleton District Council, Jack Brunton Charitable Trust, The National Lottery Awards for All, and many local people. Subsequently more equipment was added.
The hall is proving very popular as a Wedding Venue where you can choose your own decorations, formal or informal dining, a marquee on the outside space and make it your own special place. If it is a family affair, the Play Area adds extra fun. A fully stocked Bar can be provided to complete the arrangements. Look at the pages of Pictures and Special Occasions for more ideas for using the space.
Situated at the centre of the main street, the Village Hall is a fantastic building to see. It was built in 1938 by the then leading village family, the Constantines, and 2018 was the hall's 80th Anniversary. It is worth a visit just to look around! In the last 20 years the villagers have raised funds and grants to refit the kitchen with modern facilities, completely modernize the toilet area including disabled facilities and baby changing, refurbish the rooms backstage, decorate throughout, and renew the very fine wooden floors.
In 2016 the newly refurbished Mowbray Lounge Bar (formerly the Snooker Room and Bar) was formally opened by Aytor Karanka, then-Manager of Middlesbrough FC and East Harlsey resident, on 9 March 2016. A crowd of about 50 local people enjoyed drinks and refreshments. See some pictures on the Home page of this website.
